AION 2 Templar Build: PvE Tank Skills, Gear and Stats
Templar PvE tank build for AION 2: recommended skills, manastones, weapon and armor choices, with labeled data sources and versions.
Updated: 2026-10-11 · Published: 2026-10-11
The Templar is AION 2's only true tank — sword and shield, front of the party, and structurally required in hard group content. This page tracks a community-tested PvE tank build. Class basics: Templar overview. Rankings: class tier list.
Build Summary
- Role: tank (front-line, shield mitigation)
- Stat focus: Attack with Defense layering; the reference build stacks Attack Superior (PvE) manastones plus a Defense Superior stone — tanks still contribute real damage in AION 2
- Weapon: Longsword + Guard (reference: Archon Praetorian Captain Longsword / Guard, +20)
- Armor: reference build uses the Splendent Nemesis Dragon Lord set
Recommended Skills
The build's skill set (12 slots):
| Skill | Note |
|---|---|
| Vicious Strike | Core filler |
| Poach | Pull — reported to reset its cooldown on kill at skill level 8 |
| Annihilate | Damage |
| Judgment | Damage |
| Debilitating Smash | Debuff |
| Punishment | Damage |
| Pummel | Damage |
| Shield Rush | Gap closer / engage |
| Warding Strike | Defense utility |
| Flash | Utility |
| Rampage | Cooldown |
| Defiance | CC-break cleanse |
Note: Templar's Fury-type damage buff does not stack with a Gladiator's PvE damage boost — coordinate party buffs rather than doubling up.
Gear Priorities
- Weapon and Guard first — tank damage matters for threat and clear speed.
- Shield-related lines (Shield Block rates) make the Guard your most important defensive slot.
- Manastones: Attack Superior (PvE) is the reference build's choice; add Defense Superior where sockets allow.
- Belt and Amulet remain permanent investments — see gear enhancement.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths: highest survivability in the game, mandatory in dungeon/raid groups (near-instant party finder), solid solo durability.
Weaknesses: slower solo leveling than pure DPS classes, and positional play (front attacks) means you eat every mechanic head-on.
FAQ
Is Templar viable solo? Yes, just slower. Balance patches have narrowed the damage gap, but your clear speed still trails damage classes.
Do groups really need a Templar? At launch content levels, yes — it's the only dedicated tank, which is why it sits in the S tier for group PvE.
