AION 2's pets are earned, not bought: nearly every monster in the open world can become your pet through soul collection, and each one grants permanent passive stats. There are over 200 pets across five genera — Fera, Cogni, Natura, Varian and Special.
How Pet Collection Works
- Kill a monster type repeatedly to collect its soul fragments. Field monsters typically register as a pet after about 5 kills.
- Keep hunting the same species to raise its rank — community testing puts rank 2 at ~25 kills and rank 3 at ~105 total, with each rank improving the pet's permanent "owned effect" stat.
- Pets also double as mounts — which one you ride is purely cosmetic preference.
- Collection progress is shared across all your characters on the same server.
Where to Find Specific Pets
The in-game pet list shows the hunting ground for each pet. Examples from community-compiled location data:
| Pet | Example zones |
|---|---|
| Papis (very common) | Silent Hill, Nameless Cemetery, Sanctum Outpost, Moslan Forest |
| Withered Branch Spider | Nameless Cemetery, Crypt, Calderon Canyon, Silent Hill |
| Karnif | Tolbas Forest, Altamia Highlands, Rock Tomb Hill |
| Sparkie | Ellun River areas, Aullaeu Village, Forest of Exiles |
Some pets can't be hunted at all — Elite variants (Elite Keneire, Elite Ursus, Elite Karnif and others) come only from Pet Soul Chests, while others come from events, Growth Pet Chests (Ascension Trials award 20+), or pre-registration rewards like Pagati. Monsters that don't drop fragments can often be bought with Kinah from Black Cloud Merchants.
Enemy-faction pets
Several pets only spawn on the opposing faction's continent. Farm those during a Spacetime Rift invasion — combine the trip with enemy-side dungeons and cubes.
Genus Insight: Turning Pets Into Stats
Each pet belongs to a genus that feeds the Genus Insight board:
- Analyze to roll passive stats; locking a good stat before rerolling raises the crystal cost but protects your roll.
- Leveling an insight board (aim for ~level 10) grants permanent stats.
- Endgame players prioritize the Cogni line for Might, a key damage stat.
Efficient Farming Plan
- Collect souls naturally while doing quests, Strongholds and Sealed Dungeons — don't route specifically for every pet early on.
- When you meet a new species, grab its first 5 kills to register it.
- Save contested-zone pets for off-peak hours or rift trips.
- Leave Genus Insight rerolls until your insight level is high; early rerolls are mostly wasted crystals.
