Gear progression is a chain of decisions, not a race to enhance every new drop. The useful upgrade is the one that opens your next objective or fixes a real weakness at a reasonable cost. Compare the full item, account for transfer or extraction options, and keep enough materials for the next replacement.

Check four things before spending: the item's Item Level, its relevant stats, the enhancement or socket state, and any binding or transfer restriction. Item Level is commonly used for content access, while the stat package determines whether the item actually helps your role. A higher number is useful for unlocking content, but it does not automatically make every stat combination better.
The current client is the authority for success rates, costs and failure outcomes. These values can differ by item type, rank and patch, so confirm the displayed result for the exact piece you selected.
A Safe Progression Loop
- Choose the next dungeon, quest step or Item Level requirement you want to reach.
- Identify the smallest upgrade that closes that gap.
- Compare new drops before transferring, socketing or enhancing them.
- Improve the slots you will keep long enough to recover the investment.
- Recheck the content menu after the change; stop spending once the target is open.
- Extract, transfer, store or sell replaced gear according to the options shown on that item.
This loop prevents a common mistake: upgrading every slot evenly even though one weapon, defensive piece or permanent progression item is the real bottleneck.
Slot and Stat Priorities
Damage roles usually gain immediate value from the weapon and offensive stats that match their class. Tanks and healers still need enough output for solo play, but party survival and resource stability can be the better first fix. When choosing between two pieces, use the stats guide and ask which one improves the content you are actually failing.
| Situation | Practical priority |
|---|---|
| Cannot enter the next activity | Efficient Item Level per material spent |
| Damage check fails | Weapon, accuracy and role-appropriate offensive stats |
| Dying to unavoidable damage | Defensive stats, health and equipment quality |
| Rotation runs dry | Resource recovery, cooldown flow and skill setup |
| Upgrade is temporary | Minimal investment; keep resources for the next tier |
Replace, Transfer or Extract
Before removing an old piece, inspect every action offered by the client. Some investments can be recovered or moved; others cannot. Lock anything you might keep as a preset, appearance or transfer source. Never dismantle a heavily developed item from the inventory grid without first opening the relevant transfer and extraction interfaces.
For enhancement mechanics and risk checks, use the gear enhancement guide. For cleanup decisions, see what to do with old gear.
Material Budget
Split resources into three buckets: current progression, planned replacement and emergency reserve. Spend the first bucket only until the next target is met. Protect the second for a known long-lived item. Keep the reserve for a required transfer, socket change or defensive adjustment discovered during real content.
Avoid copying a finished build's exact spending order. That player may have different drops, trade access, group support or patch conditions. Your next efficient step depends on your inventory and unlock state.
Weekly Review Checklist
- Set one content or Item Level target.
- Compare every locked candidate before enhancing.
- Remove stats your class cannot use from the comparison.
- Check transfer, extraction and binding rules.
- Stop once the upgrade solves the chosen bottleneck.
- Update your dungeon plan with the PvE overview.
Progress becomes much cheaper when every material has a job. Aim for the next useful unlock, preserve reusable investment and let actual drops determine the path.
