AION 2 separates production into five crafting professions: Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy and Cooking. A character can plan more than one profession, but materials, shop components and time make it more efficient to establish one useful loop before spreading resources across every mastery track.
Understand the Five Professions
Blacksmithing focuses on melee weapons and related metal work. Armorsmithing covers armor and armor components. Handicrafting supports bows, staves, accessories and decorative work. Alchemy produces magical or chemical consumables and related materials, while Cooking produces food-based support items. Always verify the current recipe categories because updates can move or add outputs.
Choose a First Profession
Start with what the active character consumes most often. A melee weapon user may value Blacksmithing, an armor goal may favor Armorsmithing, and classes using bows, staves or accessories may benefit from Handicrafting. Alchemy and Cooking serve repeatable consumable demand. The main crafting guide explains the common production interface; this page focuses on choosing and leveling mastery.
Read the Mastery Requirement
Before crafting, check the profession, required mastery, output quantity, material chain and any success or quality display in the live recipe window. Do not assume that a recipe which looks similar awards the same progress. If a promotion quest or rank boundary appears, read its exact requested item and whether the result must be gathered, self-crafted or submitted. Current client text overrides remembered values from another region.
Build a Material Loop
List the final recipe, expand every crafted component and reserve merchant items before starting. Pair the plan with Essence Extraction so the gathered material line supports the chosen profession. Buy or exchange only the missing pieces after comparing time and market cost. Keep a reserve of materials shared with equipment enhancement, quests or another profession.
Level With Useful Recipes
The cheapest visible recipe is not automatically the best choice. Prefer a craft that still grants mastery progress and creates something the character, a quest or the market can use. Make a small batch first, confirm material consumption and progress, then repeat. Stop when the recipe no longer advances the goal or when the output begins filling storage faster than it can be used.
Blacksmithing and Armorsmithing Planning
These gear professions can consume large material chains, so work backward from a specific weapon or armor target. Compare the crafted result with quest, dungeon and exchange alternatives before committing rare components. A temporary item may not justify a long mastery grind. Use the crafting recipes guide to calculate intermediates and the gear progression guide to judge replacement timing.
Handicrafting Planning
Handicrafting spans several equipment families, which makes recipe selection especially important. Confirm whether the target is a weapon, accessory or intermediate component and whether the active class can use it. Do not craft an accessory only because its listing price is high; include failed attempts, fees, binding and actual demand. Gathered gems can support this route when the current recipe calls for them.
Alchemy and Cooking Planning
Consumable professions reward repeatable demand but can quietly drain materials. Separate personal-use stock, quest requirements and sale inventory. Verify effect, duration, binding and stack size from the current tooltip before producing a large batch. Avoid holding excessive version-sensitive food or potion stock when a balance update may change demand or ingredients.
Protect Kina and Storage
Set a session budget for materials, merchant components and fees. Leave enough Kina for travel, repairs and essential progression. Empty storage space before a large craft and label retained components by profession. If the market is part of the plan, calculate the complete input cost and selling fee rather than comparing only one material with the highest visible listing.
Profession Leveling Checklist
Confirm the chosen profession, mastery requirement, useful output, full material chain, storage space and spending limit. Craft a small batch, check mastery progress and keep only outputs with a defined use. Revisit the decision after a rank change or major update; the best first profession is the one that supports the character's current goals without blocking the rest of progression.
