Essence Extraction is AION 2's unified gathering system. Instead of separate mining, logging and herbalism skills, one skill covers all six material types: ore, gems, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients and Odyle. You can start gathering from character level 10.

How Gathering Works

  1. Interact with a node — an ore vein, plant, or floating green Odyle orb.
  2. Two gauges appear: Success and Failure. Every few seconds one of them fills by a random amount.
  3. Whichever gauge fills first decides the result. Success yields the material; failure yields nothing.
  4. Each node allows about 3 attempts before it depletes, and every attempt — win or lose — grants Proficiency EXP.
  5. Getting hit by an enemy cancels the attempt entirely.

Odyle is gathered while flying

Odyle orbs float in the air, so gathering them drains your Wing Energy. Running out mid-attempt interrupts it. There is a setting for automatic flight during Odyle extraction — turn it on.

Ranks: Novice to Professional

  • Novice: levels 1-50.
  • Professional: levels 1-50, unlocked by a promotion quest at Novice 50 that asks you to gather a Splendent Ruby — a rare result from ordinary Ruby nodes. Keep gathering rubies until one drops.

Spending Skill Points

Each level grants points, but there are not enough to max everything (roughly 65 Common and 14 Specialty points in total), so priorities matter.

Common skills (apply to every material):

  • Proficient Handling: the Success gauge fills faster. Top priority.
  • Delicate Touch: shrinks the Failure gauge. Top priority.
  • Lady Luck: chance of extra resources. Only relevant once your failure chance is already low — community guides suggest leaving it around rank 5.

Specialty skills (one line per material):

  • Seeker: shows that material's nodes on your minimap.
  • Plentiful Harvest: chance to double the yield.
  • Appraiser: up to +30% chance of higher-quality (Fine/Pure) results, which sell for more.

Recommended plan

Max the specialty line that feeds your crafting profession first (for example, Gems for Handicrafting), and invest in Odyle early — Odyle can be converted into other materials via Substance Morph, but not the other way around. Respeccing costs 50,000 Kinah if you change your mind.

Practical Tips

  • Gather everything along your quest route from level 10 — proficiency adds up passively and saves painful grinding later.
  • Higher-quality results (like Pure gemstones) are worth significantly more Kinah on the market.
  • With the Seeker skill, node locations appear on your minimap; toggle them in the minimap options.
  • Don't confuse Essence Extraction with Item Extraction (breaking down old gear for enhancement stones and wardrobe skins) — they are separate systems.

Gathering feeds directly into crafting — see our crafting guide for how the materials become best-in-slot gear.
